We just turned 8

They say age is only a number. It is, but it’s a number with a meaning behind it. Today, Sponge Hammer turned eight, which is mind-blowing to me.

Looking back, it has been such a journey! In 2016, I set up the company on a Monday, received the papers on Tuesday, and then looked at the empty room in my house and asked myself, “Now what?”.

I had a vague idea of what the company would eventually do, but at the time, I was only concerned about figuring out if I wanted to run a company in the first place.

As it turns out, I do.

I believe in solving problems in order, so once I cleared that up, the second item on my list was to figure out what sort of company I wanted to run. I set a few rules that govern everything I and, by extension, we do around here. We will be honest and genuine and try to be as nice as possible to everyone—you know, decent people.

I am happy to report that it worked, and we had an incredible ride! Growing from one in a room, meeting excellent, loyal, knowledgeable, and skilled people along the way who decided to join in on the adventure, we are about 30 strong, with adding seven more to the mix in the next couple of months. WHAT?!

For the people who are part of Sponge Hammer now or were part of it at some point, I want to say thank you! We could not have done it without you!

We wouldn’t be here without our partners and support network, who repeatedly trust us with their products, games and ideas and jump on calls when we need help or advice.

In the past years, we have been actively working with Rare on Sea of Thieves, and I am so proud of everything we’ve achieved as we support several areas of development.

We also support Unity projects with our expertise, mostly programming, but that will change soon as we build our brand new co-dev operation.

We have an indie studio, Sponge Hammer Games, where we are working hard on our interactive storybook game for small children called Flatstone Grove, where we teach kindness, love of nature and being nice to each other to the little ones. And we have something unusual but excellent in the pipeline that, as our team’s motto says, will make a difference in our players’ lives. Watch this space! I can’t wait to tell you more about it, which I will do on our socials.

Thank you for being with us along the way, and here’s to another 8, 10, 20…
